Low-energy retrofit and small side return extension transforming a drafty and dark Victorian terraced house into a bright and comfortable three bedroom home in South East London. The house was upgraded to achieve an A rated EPC and AECB Carbonlite ‘Step 1’ accreditation.

The design approach placed an emphasis on a fabric first, low embodied carbon approach whilst improving the performance of the building through new heating and ventilation systems as well as improving air tightness and energy performance.

The carbon footprint of the works has been kept as low as possible; natural materials with low embodied energy were used such as lime plaster and wood-fibre insulation throughout and materials were re-used such as bricks and timber floorboards.

Woodfibre internal insulation throughout lowers the heat demand. The home is heated by an Air Source Heat Pump and ventilated by a Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery unit.
