A-Typical Terrace was ‘Highly Commended’ at the Architect’s Journal Retrofit and Reuse Awards 2026
It was featured in the print and online editions of the magazine suppliment covering the awards
The judges’ comments were as follows;
“Transforming a dark and draughty Victorian terraced house into a bright and open three-bedroom home in south-east London, this low-energy retrofit and extension emphasised a fabric first, low embodied carbon approach, while improving energy performance through new heating and ventilation systems. Employing natural materials such as hemp-lime plaster and wood-fibre insulation, along with recycled bricks and timber floorboards - helped to minimise the carbon footprint. The judges noted that 'in leveraging the potential of an ordinary Victorian terraced house, the scheme was well thought-through and showed exemplary design skills!”
